Where in the ancient world are we off to next? China is the next stop on our journey! The Far East is far out!
Once again, we will begin our study of Chapter 5, Ancient China, with a map/geographic setting lesson. Ancient China is another of the great river valley civilizations, but we must shed light on the importance of other extreme features that isolated China from contact with the rest of the ancient world. Deserts, seas, and the Himalaya Mountains kept China in a position to develop a unique, stable civilization for most of ancient past. Check out the Great Wall of China below. Why did the Ancient Chinese take on such an overwhelming task?
Buddhism and Confucian philosophy had profound effects on Ancient China and continue to play roles in the lives of Chinese people today. The extended family will have an important role in our treatment of this chapter.
What role does your family play in your life? Think about it!
